Firefighters were called to a house fire in Catterick Garrison this morning.

The incident took place at a bungalow in Byng Road.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said all the occupants were out of the house safely when they arrived and they have not had to rescue anyone.

The fire was reported at 6.33am.

Crews from Colburn, Richmond, Bedale and Leyburn attended the scene.

The aerial ladder was also been called for to remove roof tiles.

Police closed Byng Road from the White Shops junction while firefighters worked at the scene.

A crowdfunding appeal has been launched to raise money for the occupants with the target of donating £5,000.

It was launched by local residents Victoria Weaver.

She said: ” Today a lovely family, the McNally’s have lost their family home due to fire.

“It’s early days so I don’t know the full extent of the damage but it doesn’t look good.

“This family has had a rough ride recently and could do with a break right now. They are always there to help others and have helped my son plenty. I’d like to do something in return.

“I want to raise funds to help them in this transition period.

“They are going to need clothes so the kids can go to school and, well, everything else that we take for granted.”
