Almost 700 Richmondshire businesses have applied for small business grants due to being affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
The district council launched its online grants service for small business rate relief, rural rate relief and retail, hospitality and leisure grants on Friday and by the end of the weekend around 20 per cent of the eligible businesses had applied.
That had risen to 39 per cent or 694 businesses by this afternoon, with 72 per cent of those forms already verified for payment.
These are now being processed by the authority’s team ready to pay out when the government cash is released – that is expected to be later this week.
The council estimates there are around 1,800 district based businesses able to receive help.
