A photographer has captured images of so-called ‘ice pancakes’ which formed on the River Swale at Richmond during last week’s freezing temperatures.
The pancakes form when surface foam freezes and the edges are rubbed away as they bump into one another.
The pictures were taken by Richmond resident Tom Kolour.
He said: “I was just out on my morning walk and went down the Howe to Billy Banks looking for some snow shots of the castle and the bridge.
“When I saw them I as a little mystified at first. Then I just got totally mesmerised by them.”
