Illegally parked BMW driver tells police “just fine me as I have plenty of cash”

Police tackle illegally parked drivers outside a school.

A BMW driver who parked illegally while collecting her children at school told police “just fine me as I have plenty of cash”, it has emerged.

The response earned the woman a traffic offence report and a fine of up to £1,000 — with police also threatening to seize the car if she repeats the offence.

Officers spotted the woman parked on yellow zig-zags outside Trinity Academy Primary School, in Richmond, North Yorkshire, last week.

Inspector Martin Metcalfe, from Richmondshire neighbourhood policing team, has launched a crackdown against illegal parking outside local schools in the area.

So far, dozens of motorists have been caught in the operation since November.

He said the message was getting through to most drivers.

However, he added: “Having said that, we are still seeing some irresponsible people leaving their vehicles in dangerous places and putting our pupils at risk, so will continue to clamp down when we can.

“One female in her nice white BMW X6 even said to me ‘just fine me as I have plenty of cash’ so when there are people like this around, you can see how tough our job is.

“However, next time she commits this offence, I will seize her car if I deem it to be parked in a dangerous position, then hopefully she will get the message.”

Insp Metcalfe added: “I caught her up inside the school to offer her some friendly advice but due to her response, I issued her with a traffic offence report.”

Mor than 150 motorists have been given warnings since the crackdown began in November.

A total of 44 of the most persistent and dangerous motorists have been issued with a traffic offence reports that will result in a fine of up to £1,000.

Insp Metcalfe added: “At least three people have also not responded to the fines sent to them, so will now face a court appearance in due course.

“We have also been in contact with the 12 schools that are having issues and all have also attempted to educate the parents and guardians that attend. All of the schools we are attending are also fully supporting us.

“So, although the majority of people are being responsible, we do have a minority that are still risking it and will therefore continue attending the schools to tackle this serious road safety issue.”

  1. Inconsiderate and Illegal Parking is prevalent throughout the Dales not only outside Schools, so let the quest begin to get them all!

  2. I have the same issue outside trinity academy, I was called a c—r for telling a woman to stop parking over my drive way she did this in front of her child and others around her as she got in her car , I have spoke to the headmaster today about it as I’m fuming 😡

  3. She’ll probably use one of her other cars or send one of the servants.

  4. Why don’t you tell us how much you fined her instead of saying; “fine up to £1k”.
Others then may also get the message.
