Injured paraglider airlifted to hospital

An injured paraglider was airlifted to hospital after crashing in the Yorkshire Dales yesterday.

The incident happened above Hawes near Cam High Road.

Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team (SMRT) was called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to help.

Paramedics and rescue team members treated the casualty at the scene.

They were then airlifted to hospital by a Coastguard helicopter.

Their condition is not known.

SMRT thanked paragliders who landed to allow the helicopter to land.

Volunteers later took part in a training exercise in Round Howe woods near Richmond.
