Investigation launched after fire at former Catterick Garrison club

An investigation has been launched following a fire at a former club in Catterick Garrison last night.

Fire crews were called to the old civil service club in Dane Road at just after 7pm on Saturday.

Crews from Colburn, Richmond, Leyburn, Bedale, Reeth and Harrogate responded to the fire in the rear of the derelict building.

Crews extinguished the fire using six sets of breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets, a main jet, two thermal imaging cameras and an aerial ladder platform.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said today that it was believed the fire was started deliberately.

Fire investigators and police crime scene investigators have worked together today to collect evidence.

The fire occurred in a building next to the Travaux Sports and Social Club, with staff today thanking North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service for their efforts tackling the blaze.

The club also thanked a woman who called in to alert staff about the fire.
