Richmondshire gardeners are once again being urged to get ready for the annual summer competition to find the best blooms in the district.
Next month judges will begin mystery shopping gardens in all Richmondshire District Council owned homes as they look for the best window boxes, tubs, baskets, borders and vegetable patches.
And there will be prizes for the best overall gardens too.
During June, July and August they will look at the blooms in the council’s five area partnership areas – the Upper Dales, Catterick Garrison, Lower Wensleydale, A66 and Central Richmond.
It doesn’t matter how large or small the garden is – or if it is just a window box or a tub garden – judging will reflect how the entrant has made best use of the area they have available.
Prizes – garden centre vouchers of £50, £30 and £20 – will be awarded in September.

Why only council tenants? Who pays for the prizes? Not that I will enter the competition but I cannot because I am a house owner and not a council tenant,I have to contribute towards the prize money but cannot enter the competition that does not seen right to me why not open the competition to all?
