Just the Job launches £500,000 fundraising appeal for new headquarters

A Richmond charity has launched a fundraising drive to raise £500,000 for a new headquarters.

Just the Job has been granted planning permission for new premises near its existing base on the Gallowfields Trading Estate.

The charity, which works with adult with disabilities to achieve their potential by doing work in the community, must now raise the money to pay for the building.

Steve Biggs, Just the Job general manager, said: “We need to raise over £500,000.

“It’s a bit scary but everyone at Just the Job is very excited about the new headquarters and I’m sure with all the great support from the community we’ll get there.”

Steve said the charity was quickly outgrowing the present building. For example, work team members eat lunch right next to the crafting and woodwork activities.

The charity says that many of the team members find some situations stressful and need a quiet room to escape to that’s peaceful and calming.

“They currently have nothing like this but the new build has been designed taking all these areas in to consideration.

“There will be separate rooms for crafting and woodwork activities and lots of storage as currently there is clutter everywhere.

“We want the new facilities to help integrate other community projects requiring accessible space and there will be lots of opportunities for local people to be involved with the fundraising and the build itself. The project is as much about our whole community as it is Just the Job.”

The timber frame design incorporates up to date green technology with good old fashioned straw bale insulation and will be one of the most eco-friendly buildings in the region.

The fundraising appeal will be launched at the Big Green Build fundraising event at Richmondshire Cricket Club on March 16 at 7pm.

It will include a silent auction, light supper and a presentation about the new build project.
