Kiplin appoints new staff member following lottery fund success

Kiplin Hall and Gardens has welcomed a new member of staff following a successful funding application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Naomi Peach, 23, from Beverley, East Yorkshire, will be working on the Interpreting Kiplin for 400 Project, celebrating 400 years since the building of Kiplin Hall.

The project seeks to engage with local community groups and previously under-represented audiences to create engaging and relevant interpretation for the museum and grounds.

Naomi joins Kiplin from Cragside, a National Trust property in Northumberland.

She holds a degree in history and an MA in museum studies from Leicester University.

Having moved to the area to take on the role, Naomi is excited to get to work.

She said “Having visited Kiplin during the lockdowns with my mum and sister we day dreamed about what a lovely place it would be to work.

“I could really picture myself here, and now my day dream has come true. Not only is the venue amazing but the project itself is really interesting.

“Creating long term interpretation, not just a temporary exhibition, working with communities is a relatively rare brief, so it presents an interesting challenge.”

Director of Kiplin Hall, James Etherington said: “We are thrilled to welcome Naomi to the Kiplin family.

“We are sure her skills will be a great asset to the role and Naomi will be a good fit with our large team of volunteers and the wider community.

“We are especially thankful to National Lottery players without whom this project could not take place.”

Originally from Beverley in East Yorkshire Naomi shares a passion for history with her mother, who has also just finished an MA in Museum Studies.

Naomi Peach will work under Kiplin’s curator, Alice Rose.

Kiplin Hall and Gardens is open to visitors 6 days a week until Wednesday, November 2, at which time the venue will close while it is dressed for Christmas. A Time Traveller’s Christmas will open Friday, December 2 to Sunday, December 18 (closed every Thursday).
