Knives and other sharp objects have been removed from the streets of Richmondshire after being handed in through a police amnesty scheme.
North Yorkshire Police has revealed a collection of bladed articles deposited in the knife amnesty bin at Colburn during July and August.
The facility allows members of the public to anonymously dispose of knives and other bladed items safely.
Police say the scheme can be used for everyday household knives which are being replaced, as well as more concerning weapons which people want to remove from circulation.
No questions are asked when items are deposited in the bins.
There are 20 knife amnesty bin locations across North Yorkshire, including two in Richmondshire.
The local facilities can be found at the lorry park in Colburn, DL9 4GA, and Nuns Close Car Park in Richmond, DL10 4UQ.
Police shared an image showing the knives and sharp objects collected from the Colburn bin over the past two months before they were safely disposed of.
Officers are encouraging residents to make use of the facilities rather than putting unwanted knives into household waste or allowing potentially dangerous items to remain in circulation.
In a message accompanying the photograph, police said: “Let’s work together to eliminate these threats and create a safer environment for everyone.
“Bring your knives to our designated drop-off points — no questions asked.”
The force added: “Your safety is our priority. Join the movement and make a difference today.”
The amnesty bins are designed to provide a secure and anonymous way for people to surrender bladed articles, with the collected items subsequently safely disposed of.
