A special auction celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of legendary Yorkshire craftsman Robert Thompson will take place at Tennants Auctioneers next month.
The dedicated Mouseman sale on June 13 will feature around 300 lots showcasing the work of the iconic furniture maker, whose carved mouse trademark became recognised across the world.
The auction marks 150 years since the birth of Robert “Mouseman” Thompson, who was born in 1876 and established his famous workshop in Kilburn, North Yorkshire.
Tennants’ Mouseman specialist Diane Sinnott said the anniversary sale was expected to be a landmark event.
She said: “Having worked with Mouseman for over thirty years, I am absolutely thrilled to be celebrating this milestone anniversary with what is set to be a landmark sale.”
Among the highlights will be three major private collections.
The North Yorkshire Collection includes a carefully assembled range of carvings, furniture and smaller pieces collected over the past decade, featuring rare models sourced from Kilburn and auction houses.
Its standout piece is a Mouseman English Oak Carving of Fighting Stallions, estimated at between £8,000 and £12,000.
The North East Collection includes furniture and carvings obtained directly from the Kilburn workshop, including a rare English Oak Carving of Racing Greyhounds, expected to fetch £4,000 to £6,000.
Also featured is a bespoke oak bowl decorated with six carved mice around its base.
Another significant section of the sale is the Stone Lodge Interior collection, featuring original Mouseman interiors removed from Stone Lodge in Silsden before the property was demolished.
Completed in 1953, the collection includes oak panelling, doors, a fireplace and decorative newel posts featuring carved owl and mouse details.
Additional lots include traditional monk’s chairs, tables, bookends and a rare English Oak Steamer Deck Chair dating from the 1920s or 1930s.
The auction will be on public view at Tennants in Leyburn from June 11 to 12, with the full illustrated catalogue available online.
