Launch night for revamped Hawes and District Youth Club

Members of Hawes Youth Club.

Hawes and District Youth Club will relaunch tonight.

The club aims to give local young people a safe space to meet and socialise with friends while providing a range of fun and positive activities.

The club will run every Wednesday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm during term time.

It will continue to meet in the youth room at the Hawes Market House.

The club is for young people in school years six an upwards.

The club has been able to reopen thanks to successful funding from the National Lottery’s Awards for All grant scheme worth £5,300.

Other match funds of £2,000 have been received from North Yorkshire County Councils Stronger Communities and Hawes and High Abbotside Parish Council who have supported the club consistently over the past four years.

A new youth team has been assembled to bring better continuity to the club and ensure it will continue to run smoothly.

The team will be overseen by new senior youth leader, Tracy Sockett with support from youth leaders, Stella Huntbach and newly recruited Matt Alexander.

The team would also like to thank Joanne Jones, Ian Sockett and Alyson Walker who have joined the club as volunteers.

Special thanks have also been paid to Cllr John Blackie, club chair, Abbie Rhodes, from the Upper Dales Community Partnership, and Stella Huntbach and Richie Bastow, from North Yorkshire Youth.
