Colburn-based Lazer Cheer Academy has qualified for the World Cheerleading Championships.

The academy will take part in the prestigious event in Florida April next year.

They qualified after their all girl level 5 team was awarded an ‘at large bid’ at Jamfest Europe in Liverpool at the weekend.

Mandy Foreman, Lazer Cheer Academy program director, said it was the squad’s first time competing at level 5 and first time attending a bid event.

“We are over the moon to be one of the teams heading to worlds from the UK next year.

“We are unbelievably proud of our athletes for achieving this in their first year back after covid.

“This just goes to prove how dedicated they were in keeping up their fitness during lockdown.”

The squad moved into their own gym in Foss Way in Colburn last year.
Mandy added: “This has accelerated our progression in both tumbling and stunting, and we will be forever grateful for having amazing venue to train in.”
