Le Cateau Primary School is celebrating two winners at the first Service Children Awards.

The awards aim is to recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions of service children and those who work to support them in North Yorkshire.

There were over 60 nominees from all over the county, with two winners coming from Le Cateau.

Lyla O’Donovan, who won the Inspirational Service Child of the Year Award, was diagnosed with a brain stem tumour in 2016 and underwent a life-threatening operation to remove it.

Since then she has had multiple high-risk operations to deal with the aftermath of the tumour.

While recovering from these life-changing surgeries, Lyla has continued to give support to families with a child with a life-threatening illness, and through her charity Lyla & Lilleys Stars has provided days out to make special memories.

Kacey Clarke was awarded the Caring Champion Award for supporting her brother TJ and mum while her dad is serving away from home.

Ten-year-old TJ has complex health and developmental needs.

The school said Kacey was a constant help at home and supports her mum when times get tough, asking if she is ok and helping with chores around the house all while still attending school and giving it 100 per cent.

They added: “Kacey is the most caring child who never makes anyone feel any different she truly embraces the Le Cateau motto Equally Important, Equally Different.”
