Leaders wanted to run Richmondshire Scout groups

An appeal has been issued for leaders to run Scout groups in Richmondshire.

Volunteers are wanted to help with groups from Squirrels, who start at four, up to Explorers, who finish at 18.

Scout groups currently run in Swaledale, Wensleydale, Barton, Catterick Village, Catterick Garrison and Colburn, and Richmond.

Lindsay Sykes, district commissioner for Richmondshire, said: “The role involves some basic training in first aid, safety and safeguarding, and then you can do as little or as much training as you want to  – ideally qualifying for your wood beads.

“Being a leader means you get to enjoy the fun of camping, hiking, axe throwing or just simple things like arts and crafts if you prefer.

“All the leaders are fully supported at all times and there is always someone available to talk to.

“Its a place to make friends and watch the young people grow in confidence and experience.”
