A zoo animal welfare charity has appointed a Leyburn children’s author as its first ambassador.
Children’s author and entrepreneur, Hannah Russell, is animal welfare charity Wild Welfare’s new ambassador and will be helping the organisation raise awareness of captive animal welfare around the world.
With an ongoing passion for animal welfare and the environment, Hannah was intrigued to learn about the unique projects Wild Welfare undertakes and keen to help promote the work through an ambassadorial position.
Wild Welfare’s acting UK director Simon Marsh, said: “What better person to have as our first ambassador than Hannah, who already flies the flag for animal welfare in so much of what she does.
“Hannah’s work reaches a lot of people, many of whom share her passion and compassion for animals, so we’re thrilled that they can now hear about Wild Welfare and how we’re working towards making all zoos good zoos.”
Best known for her Little Alf books, that detail the adventures of her Miniature Shetland pony Alf, Hannah Russell is also one of the UK’s leading young entrepreneurs, and supports a host of other charities, including as an ambassador for international equine welfare charity Brooke and conservation charity Helping Rhinos.
“I love animals and always have done, I’m really excited to be working with Wild Welfare going forward and helping to spread further awareness about the charity and their goals,” said Hannah.
As Wild Welfare continues to increase its projects around the world, new ambassador Hannah will be helping grow its profile and inspire more people to engage with the charity’s goals.
Wild Welfare’s work improves welfare standards for wild animals living in zoos, aquariums and sanctuaries around the world. Working as much with people as with animals, the charity provides practical training and ongoing support to help upskill animal care staff and end the suffering of wild animals living in unsuitable conditions.
Make sure you look out for Hannah’s involvement in Wild Welfare’s future challenge events and fundraising appeals.
