Leyburn author wins New York book award

Twenty-year-old Leyburn author Hannah Russell has won an award at a prestigious festival in New York.

Hannah has won a prize for her books based on Little Alf the miniature Shetland pony who she began writing about when she was just aged just 17.

The pair have won New York’s Literacy award with the Equus film festival, a festival which showcases international equestrian based films, books and TV work from all over the world.

Hannah and Alfie where representing the UK with her book Little Alf the magic helper which is a children’s festive tale of Little Alf at Christmas time.

They were up against all different countries across the world including the USA, Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden.

Hannah said: “I can’t believe it. I would have never thought that Little Alf would go as far as New York! It’s very overwhelming and I think it’s going to take a few weeks to get use to the news.”
