A Leyburn couple managed to celebrate 60 years of marriage despite the anniversary falling at the start of the second lockdown.
Joan and Carl Danvers were due to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary on November 5 — the day the lockdown came into force.
Daughter Sharon had planned a packed day of celebrations, which all had to be scrapped due to the restrictions.
The couple had been planning to renew their vows at Finghall Church, followed by a meal with a small group of close family.
Joan said: “Carl and I were given permission to visit the church on our own for private prayer, and the church warden Marjorie Blake took some photos.
“We then then had a video link with family in the evening.”
Joan added: “Sharon had rallied about 20 friends and families from near and far to send in video messages which turned out to be quite emotional.
“We also received a card from the Queen.
“All in all it was a very memorable day that we both really enjoyed.”
If anyone wishes to visit the Lower Wensleydale Benefice of Churches for private prayer they can do so by arrangement.
