Leyburn PCSO Don Watson retires after two decades of service

A well-known face in the Leyburn community is preparing to retire this week as PCSO Don Watson completes his final set of shifts with North Yorkshire Police.

PCSO Watson, who has served in Leyburn for 20 years, will hang up his yellow vest after a policing career that followed earlier service with the Royal Military Police.

Colleagues say he will be greatly missed – not only for his dedication to the job, but also for the many stories he has shared over the years while supporting residents across the Dales.

A spokesperson for the neighbourhood policing team said Don’s retirement was “very well deserved”, adding: “We will miss him and his stories, but wish him all the very best. His permanent out-of-office will be ‘Gone Fishing’.”
