Leyburn Primary School celebrates SATS success

Leyburn Primary School is celebrating success in the annual SATS.

School leaders say that while results across the country have dropped below the expected standard due to the impact of the pandemic on children’s learning, the pupils at Leyburn have bucked the trend and achieved the school’s best results yet for reading, maths, and grammar and spelling, which are well above the national average.

Headteacher Sarah Beveridge said that most significantly the school’s results in reading were 20 per cent above the national average.

The head added: “Over the last few years we have striven to instil a love of reading in our pupils.

“I am so proud of the hard work and achievement of both staff and children, and their efforts to recover lost learning time, which has produced results that have exceeded all expectations.

“A love of reading and such strong results will help all the pupils succeed as they progress onto their next phase of education.”
