Pupils from Leyburn Primary School have launched a business to raise money for charity.

Members of the after school club are taking part in the Rotary Club Of Wensleydale’s inter-school challenge.

Schools are given £40 and use it to help them raise as much money for charity.

The Leyburn children have launched a candle making business.

They have received help and guidance from Jenny White, from White Rose Candles, in Wensley, on how to make and market candles.

So far, they have sold dozens of candles and tea lights, and made more than £100.

Sarah Willis, after school coordinator, said: “We’ve had a lot of fun learning how to make candles and are now busy selling them.

“We had a successful time at the school Christmas fair at the weekend but still have plenty left.

“We were given several choices on which charity to help and the children chose the Guide Dog charity.”

The challenge ends at the end of term when all the money raised will be counted and handed over.

The candles are available in the Co-op in Leyburn and from the primary school.
