A men’s football team has thanked local businesses for their support as it takes on a fresh challenge in a new league.

Like other former members of the Wensleydale League men’s teams, Leyburn Utd is competing in the newly created North Riding Third Division this season.

Leyburn are unbeaten so far and sit second in the table.

The team has been supported by local companies, Metcalfe Farms, and Coverdale tourist attraction, The Forbidden Corner, which have bought a new kit and training wear.

Leyburn Utd men’s team manager, Shane Close, said: “We’d like to thank Metcalfe Farms and The Forbidden Corner for kindly sponsoring the team this coming season with a new kit and match day polo shirts.”The team are wearing the kits in a new league, which will see the team travelling further afield.

“We have strengthened the squad, adding both youth and experience, leading us on to have a good start to the new campaign.

“There’s always room to add quality players to a fast-improving side and anyone keen to get involved should drop the club a message.”

David Metcalfe, who runs the business with brothers Philip and Brian, said the company was happy to help the team.

“As a major employer in the area, it’s important for us to support the local community,” he added.
