Fire crews were called to a property in Marrick after a chimney was struck by lightning, filling the home with smoke.
Crews from Richmond and Reeth attended the incident at 4.16pm on Friday.
The lightning strike caused the chimney to fill with smoke, which then spread throughout the residential property.
Firefighters used two breathing apparatus sets and a hose reel jet to make the scene safe.
The property was taped off as a precaution before the incident was handed back to the homeowner.
