New mum and artist Fiona Fawcett returns home this weekend in specialist craft market at historic Scruton Station on the Wensleydale Railway.

Fiona, whose maiden name is Plews runs a successful illustrated stationary and home ware brand called Plewsy from her studio in Scruton.

Fiona’s great grandparents were the last station masters at Scruton Station when it closed to passenger traffic in 1954.

Plewsy’s presence at this market is especially fitting as the theme of the event is creativity in the family.

The market this Sunday takes place at Scruton Station shining a light on seven local craftswomen, three from Scruton itself along side makers from Northallerton, Thirsk and Richmond.

Fiona, pictured holding the very lamp that belonged to her great grandfather said: “It’s very special to be back at the station displaying my work.

“I’m sure my Grandfather would be proud of the restoration that’s taken place and be pleased to see the station buildings being used again. It’s a beautiful venue and I can’t wait to see all of the artist’s work on show.”

Heritage education officer for Wensleydale Railway, Virginia Arrowsmith said: “This station, like many on the line, is an important historic building.

“They are also now much more than the transport hubs they were built for. Scruton Station is a much-loved venue in the community, cared for largely by volunteers.

“We welcome school groups and community events as well as local and visiting passengers on the historic line. Hosting the Made by Mummy Market is an exciting part of a large programme of events taking place across Wensleydale Railway, we are especially pleased to welcome so many local artists and makers to the platform.

“Alongside the market we will also be running children’s activities and a tea and cake tent. It is sure to be a grand day out.”

Made by Mummy Markets at Scruton Station takes place on Sunday, August 20, 1pm to 4pm.

As well as the arts and crafts stalls there will also be children’s activities and homemade cakes and refreshments.

Following this event, the next Made by Mummy Market takes place at Thief Hall on Saturday and Sunday, November 4 and 5.
