Ten local people have started work at a newly opened store.

Office Outlet has opened a branch at the Princes Gate Retail Park, in Catterick Garrison.

Twelve jobs have been created at the store, which sells stationery and office supplies, and has a on-site print centre.

Of those, ten people are from the Catterick and Richmond area, and five of those were previously out of work.

Manager Gary Hodgson said they had received more than 300 CVs from people wanting to work at the store.

He said: “We are delighted to have opened a store in Catterick Garrison and have received a warm welcome.

“We were inundated with CVs from people wanting to work here and had to hold four or five interview sessions.

“We are really pleased that the majority of those who were successful are from the local area.”

Office Outlet is the new name for Staples after the company was bought by HMV-owner Hilco for a nominal sum last November.

Gary added: “Since we took over Staples we have taken it from a business that was failing to one that is generating new employment through expansion.”

The unit taken by the company was previously occupied by footwear firm Brantano until the company’s collapse last year.
