Macey raises more than £1,000 to make scrubs for NHS staff and care workers

Fundraiser Macey Foster.

A Catterick Garrison primary school student has smashed her initial target by raising more than £1,300 to help make PPE for NHS staff and care workers.

11-year-old Macey Foster pledged to run three miles every day until Sunday to raise money to buy materials for local volunteers who are making scrubs.

Macey hoped to raise £100 — but managed to achieve her target with days to spare.

The sponsorship has kept rolling in with the total standing at an amazing £1,365 this morning.

Macey attends Carnagill Community Primary School, in Catterick Garrison.

Year 6 teacher Elizabeth O’Neill, said: “As her teacher I couldn’t be more proud of her amazing achievement.

“I hope she inspires other young people to help their communities and local services.

“I think it’s so important, especially now, to celebrate the positive things that are happening all around us.”

Mum Gemma says she has been in touch with volunteers working from Colburn Village Hall, who are coordinating the making of the scrubs, and they said they would be delighted to accept the donation.
