Man charged after incident in Catterick Garrison on Sunday night

A man has been charged after an incident in Catterick Garrison on Sunday night.

Residents reported hearing two loud bangs at around 11.30am followed by the sound of sirens.

It is not yet clear if the noise was a gun shot.

However, police confirmed today that a man was arrested and then charged following an incident in the town.

A spokesperson said: “A 23-year-old man has been charged with several offences following an incident in Catterick Garrison at 11.25pm on Sunday, July 29.”

The local man has been charged with;

  • Two counts of assault
  • Possession of an offensive weapon
  • Criminal damage

He will appear at Northallerton Magistrates on August 14.

Residents reported on social media seeing a large amount of police activity around White Shops in Catterick Garrison at around midnight.

Police were also in the area on Monday morning.

According to one local resident, the incident happened in the area of flats behind the shops.
