Man dies after being trampled by cows in Yorkshire Dales

Ribblehead.

A man has been killed by cows while walking at Ribblehead.

The 82-year-old man was with his wife on Saturday when the incident happened.

The couple were walking their dogs near the viaduct.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said it appeared the cows were protecting their calves.

The man died at the scene and his wife was taken to Lancaster Royal Infirmary by ambulance suffering from shock.

She is not thought to be seriously injured.

A police statement read: “An 82-year-old man from Foulridge, Pendle, sadly died yesterday after being attacked by a herd of cows.

“The man and his wife were walking at Ivescar, Ingleton, when the incident happened at around 1.45pm.

“Emergency services attended and sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

  1. It’s to be hoped they let the dogs loose when it became obvious there was a problem. However common sense says stay away from animals with their young.

    • The problem is, these types of Incidents are extremely random and nearly always, those involved are using public footpaths and just enjoying a walk they have done many times before. This same man was elderly and may well have walked that route before without anything happening.

  2. With scenes in richmondshire by selfish idiots ,the
    goverment should impose lockdown again,
    im sick of Boris J
