
A man has died after a tragic incident at Catterick Garrison.
The 58-year-old, a civilian contractor understood to be from Richmond, died on Saturday following an incident at Piave Lines barracks, in Leyburn Road.
According to reports, the Babcock contractor was working on a Wolfhound troop carrier when the incident happened.
The Sun newspaper reports that the man was crushed by the back doors of the vehicle.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the fatality of a Babcock employee and our thoughts are with their family and colleagues.
“The MOD will support Babcock and associated agencies to undertake a full investigation.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support while enquiries, led at this stage by North Yorkshire Police, continue.
“The incident occurred at Piave Lines Barracks at around 9.50am on Saturday, January 18.”
The Sun reports that the MOD has suspended use of the Mastiff troop carriers while the incident is investigated.
