A man has appeared in court following the discovery of a large cannabis farm in Hawes.

Hao Le, 30, appeared before York Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

He is charged with cultivating around 1,000 cannabis plants.

The only address given for the man was that of the unit in Charcoals Way, on the Upper Wenlsyedale Business Park, in Hawes, where the plants were found.

The defendant was remanded to custody and the case was transferred to York Crown Court with the next hearing scheduled for July 15.

The unit was raided on Thursday last week after police received information from a member of the public about suspicious circumstances at a building in a business park.

Two men at the scene were arrested.
