Man jailed for assault on police officer and making threats of violence

York Magistrates' Court.

A man has been jailed for assaulting a police officer and making threats of violence.

Stephen George Hennings, of Brompton Park, Brompton-on-Swale, appeared before magistrates in York yesterday for a range of offences.

These included assaulting a police officer and threatening behaviour towards two women in Brompton on July 4.

In a further incident, Hennings made threats of violence to police officers in the village on July 20.

The court heard the 31-year-old also threatened to throw a brick through a car window and damaged a cell at Harrogate Police Station on July 26, and used threatening or abusive words or behaviour on July 21.

The defendant pleaded guilty to all charges.

He was jailed for a total of 14 weeks.

The court heard he was already on supervision at the time of the offending for other offences, with an aggravating factor being Hennings previous convictions.

The court ordered the defendant to pay a victim surcharge of £256.
