Men appear in court for poaching rabbits at night

Four County Durham men have been prosecuted after being caught poaching rabbits at night.

The case against Anthony Blacklock, 29, of Hambleton Road, Coundon; Thomas Jameson, 29, of Hallgarth, Kirk Merrington, and Michael McNamara, 29, of Heath Road, Spennymoor, was found proven in their absence by magistrates in York yesterday.

The court heard the offence occurred on Feldom Ranges, near Dalton, on February 24.

The defendants were each fined £660 for the offence of unlawfully destroying game at night.

They also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £66 and pay prosecution costs of £85.

A fourth man, Nathan Stewart, 28, of Murphy Crescent, Bishop Auckland, who admitted the offence ahead of the hearing, was ordered to pay a total of £259.
