A motorist whose car hit a tree near Colburn at the weekend suffered spinal injures.

The emergency services were called to a single vehicle collision on the A6136 at 3.05pm on Saturday afternoon.

A vehicle had left the road and collided with a tree, which had snapped in half due to the force of the impact.

The male driver had to be cut free by firefighters.

Crews from Richmond and Leyburn worked together to remove the roof to get the man safely out of the car.

They then administered oxygen until the arrival of ambulance to take him to hospital.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the motorist sustained spinal injuries.

The road was closed for several hours while the emergency services worked at the scene.

  1. This guy must have really had his foot to the floor to have a crash as full-on as that. He could not have been driving at a safe careful speed.
