Seventeen members of the Down Syndrome Swimming – GB Team attended a one day training camp at Catterick Leisure Centre at the weekend.

The camp was organised as part of the teams preparations for their European Championships in Sardinia later this year.

Supported by members of Richmond Dales Swimming Club, the team attended two pool sessions, a gym session and lectures on race preparation and motivational psychology.

GB Team swimmers Harvey Stonebank and Chris McDonnell are both members of the Richmond club.

Team manager Neil Lacy said “Down Syndrome Swimming Great Britain are always very keen to visit the clubs of our swimmers.

“The hospitality afforded to us by Richmond Dales Swimming Club, Nuffield Health at Catterick Leisure Centre and the surrounding Community were second to none.

“The facility at Catterick offers a first class pool, gym and conference facilities and the staff were so helpful and accommodating to our needs.

“We very much look forward to visiting Catterick again in the very near future.”

The DSS-GB team leave for Sardinia in mid September for a week of competition. Prior to this they will be attending a one-week camp being held in Newcastle.
