Pupils from The Michael Syddall Primary School have celebrated a remarkable achievement after finishing runners-up at the National Dodgeball Finals.
The Catterick Village school’s dodgeball team travelled to Kettering last Friday to compete in the national competition, having qualified through county and regional events for the fifth consecutive year.
Despite regularly facing some of the strongest teams in the country, the school had never previously progressed beyond the group stage at the national finals. However, this year the team produced an outstanding run of results to reach the final.
After successfully making it through the group stages, the pupils won their quarter-final and semi-final matches to book their place in the national final.
The team eventually finished as runners-up after being defeated by the side that had won the competition for the previous four years.
Deputy headteacher Neil Saunders said reaching the final was a huge achievement for the school and praised the pupils for their dedication and performance.
He said: “Runners-up at a national sporting event is a huge achievement for our school. We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”
