A scanner which can read dog and cat identity microchips has been donated to a Richmond shop.

The Raw Store, on the Gallowfields Industrial Estate, has received the equipment after the money was raised by animal enthusiast Oscar, a local boy whose family runs Oscar’s Menagerie Pet Boarding in Richmond.

Oscar raised £75 which paid for the scanner, as well as some other items for dogs that are brought in after being lost.

Nikki Chandler, owner of the Raw Store, thanked Oscar for his generosity.

She said: “I am really pleased we now have a scanner in store to help reunite lost dogs and cats that are found in Richmondshire.”

Nikki is also offering to scan dogs so that owners can check their dogs chips are working and where they are on their pet.

In return for the service, they are asking for a donation to the charity Saving Yorkshires Dogs, which was chosen by Oscar..

“We hope to raise awareness of microchipping and scanning and the importance of pet owners keeping their information up to date so we can quickly reunite dogs found,” Nikki added.
