A racehorse trained in Middleham has been crowned All-Weather Horse of the Year after a standout winter campaign.

Yorkshire Glory, trained by Ben Haslam at Castle Hill Stables, secured the title at Wolverhampton Racecourse on Monday evening.

The five-year-old sealed the honour with a fifth consecutive victory, beating nearest rival Aisling Oscar in the final race of the night.

Owned by Blue Lion Racing, Yorkshire Glory topped the standings in Arena Racing Company’s All-Weather Horse of the Year competition, earning a £100,000 bonus for connections.

Ridden by Andrew Mullen, the victory marked the horse’s eighth win since December, capping a remarkable run of form through the winter season.

Trainer Ben Haslam said: “It was incredible. We weren’t going there expecting to win, and to land the bonus was the cherry on top.

“What has made it so impressive is that he’s improved throughout the campaign.”

He added that the success was even more special given the strength of competition, praising runner-up Aisling Oscar for a “phenomenal” run.

Haslam also reflected on the horse’s development, explaining that Yorkshire Glory had taken time to mature but had flourished as a sprinter this season.

The gelding could run again at Newcastle Racecourse later this week, where he has already recorded multiple wins this winter.

The all-weather season will conclude with Finals Day at Newcastle on Good Friday, April 3.
