Middleham trainer Mark Johnston hit his 4,000th domestic Flat winner this week at Pontefract when Dominating landed spoils under PJ McDonald.
This puts Johnston third in the all-time list of trainers to have landed more than 4,000 winners, as he also can add five more over jumps to that tally.
Richard Hannon Snr had a career tally of 4,193 wins (4,145 on the level) and Martin Pipe, the well-known jumps trainer, retired on a record of 4,183.
The winner at Pontefract was Johnston’s 202nd success this season and was a milestone for jockey McDonald, reaching his first seasonal century, less than a fortnight after gaining his firs Group 1 success.
