Military families who are new to North Yorkshire are being invited to a free event aimed at helping them settle into the area.
The North Yorkshire Military Family Welcome Day will take place at the North HIVE Hub, Catterick Garrison, on Thursday, September 17, from 10am until 2pm.
The drop-in event will bring together organisations offering advice and support to military spouses, partners and families who may be adjusting to a new posting, schools and community.
Organisers say moving with the Armed Forces can involve much more than changing address, with families often needing to arrange schools and childcare, register with local services and establish new social networks.
Representatives from Settling in Service, North HIVE Hub, Home-Start Richmondshire and Reading Force will be available during the day.
Settling in Service, which is delivered by North Yorkshire Citizens Advice & Law Centre (NYCALC), provides free personalised support to military families relocating to Catterick Garrison, RAF Leeming and surrounding parts of North Yorkshire.
The service is funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust through its On the Move Programme.
Reading Force will provide a free book for every child and young person aged up to 18 attending the event, as well as information about family activities and book clubs.
Home-Start Richmondshire will be available to explain the support it provides to families experiencing challenges with parenting, isolation or adjusting to their circumstances.
Army HIVE staff will also provide information and signposting on issues affecting everyday service and family life.
Those attending can pick up a free First 30 Days in North Yorkshire guide containing information and resources designed to help families find their feet following a move to the county.
Free tea, coffee and refreshments will be available, along with free parking.
There is no need to book and families can arrive at any point between 10am and 2pm. Children are welcome.
