Monthly tech meetups to start in Richmond

Richmond-based thecitysecret Academy are launching a monthly tech meetup at their training centre.

The Richmondshire Tech meetup is an opportunity for people working or interested in development and programming to socialise and exchange ideas.

Whether developing mobile apps, games, software or websites, there will be an opportunity to find out more about technology and what is happening in the local tech community.

Similar events run successfully in many of the North-East’s towns and cities, which inspired thecitysecret Academy to bring something to the area.

The assumption is that you need to be in the larger towns and cities to be exposed to the latest technologies and skills, but that is no longer the case, the company said.

Sophie Hazell, director at thecitysecret, added that there were lots of technology companies which had attracted skilled staff into the area as well as training and upskilling local employees.

“We want to create the opportunity for local technologists to meet and find out how others are using technology and hear about what they are developing.  We want to highlight the skills and talent in our area  and dispel the belief that it only exists in the larger cities such as Newcastle or Leeds”, she added.

Launching on September 20, the meetups will be on the third Wednesday of the month, starting between 6pm and 6.30pm for socialising with beers and pizza.

It will then be followed by a tech talk and discussion.

The tech talks will be informal and could be a presentation, discussion or activity.

The academy would love to hear from you if you have an interesting project or tech talk you would like to share with the local tech community.

The event is free, but prior booking is required via Eventbrite.
