More than 200 trees planted in Newton-le-Willows

Villagers in Newton-le-Willows parish have planted more than 200 trees as part of the district council’s Communitree planting scheme.

Last month, a group of 15 volunteers planted a mixture of 14 different species to expand a small woodland created in a successful planting project several years ago.

This year, the woodland was expanded to follow a public footpath more directly.

Richmondshire District Council has been able to involve five community groups in this year’s Communitree scheme, seeing 350 trees planted across the district.

Bob Sampson, from Newton le Willows Parish Council, said: “On behalf of the parish council I would just add that it was good to see so many villagers coming out to plant our trees.

“Many thanks to them, to the district council for promoting the Communitree scheme and to the Peach family for providing a great lunch for all the planters.”
