Several witnesses told her an elderly woman driving a red Skoda ran into the car and then drove off without leaving details.

Witnesses took down a registration plate of the Skoda but may not have copied it down correctly as police could not find a matching vehicle.

Andrew Nelson, whose mother’s car was hit, said: “My mother was so upset that she didn’t get the details of the witnesses, one of whom took a photo with their phone.

“The police rang me back and suggested that I put the information online to ask if the witnesses could get in touch so we can give the police the correct number or a better description of the car and driver.”

He added: “The damage is minor, and we won’t go through the insurance as it will probably cost more for the excess than just paying a paint shop to sort it out.

“It is very frustrating though and the police are quite keen to get some more information as leaving the scene of an accident is a crime.”

If anyone has any information on the incident, please message Richmondshire Today via Facebook or email us here and we will pass it on.
