A motorist has been charged with drink driving after a car crashed through a fence and into a house.

The incident happened in Constantine Avenue, Colburn, at about 5.30pm on Sunday.

North Yorkshire Police said a car was driven into a resident’s fence and then hit the house, causing the occupant and neighbours “great distress”.

A spokesperson added: “Officers responded to the location and the driver of the vehicle was arrested after giving a positive breath test and also having no insurance for the vehicle.

“The driver has now been charged with both offences and bailed to attend court next month.

“Luckily on this occasion no one was injured.”
