Police last night advised the public not to travel unless absolutely necessary as heavy snow caused disruption across the district.
A number of road accidents were reported and routes across Richmondshire were blocked by snow.
The road at Skeeby was blocked, with at least one service bus unable to get up the hill towards Richmond.
QE student Joe Renwick, 18, was trying to get back to Leyburn.
He said: “We’ve been stuck for ages now – luckily I had some lozenges to keep us going.”
He and other passengers left the bus and walked into Richmond.
Difficult driving conditions were also been reported on the roads between Richmond and Leyburn and Richmond and Reeth.

The Met Office issued a yellow warning for snow which covered the east of the district until 8pm on Friday.
