Motorists urged to drive to the conditions after spate of accidents

Motorists have been urged to drive to the conditions following a spate of accidents.

Snow has fallen across the district today with freezing temperatures also make driving hazardous on the district’s roads.

Local police say there have been a number of road traffic accidents.

Inspector Martine Metcalfe, from Richmond Police station, said: “Unfortunately, across Richmondshire we are once again receiving higher reports than usual in respect of road traffic accidents.

“In relation to the motorist involved in the one shown, thankfully he was uninjured, but the car is a write off and the Farmers wall is severely damaged.

“I would urge you to drive according to the conditions, switch your headlights on and take it steady. The accidents I am aware of could have been avoided in my opinion if the drivers had driven to the conditions.”
