Mourners are being encouraged to line the route of the funeral cortege for eight-year-old Joshua Slater wearing a football shirt in tribute to the eight-year-old.

Funeral directors John Blenkiron and Sons have released details of the funeral on behalf of his family.

The service will be held at 11.30am on September 30 at St John’s Church, Hipswell, followed by private interment in Hipswell Cemetery.

Joshua’s friends who are attending the service are being encouraged to wear football tops in memory of the football-loving youngster.

And social media users have suggested mourners should also line the route of the funeral cortege wearing football shirts.

The idea has been welcomed by hundreds of people.

The cortege will begin from Colburn Lane at about 10.40am on September 30, before moving to into Forest Drive, Fifth Avenue and on to First Avenue, before making its way to the church in Hipswell along Catterick Road.

An appeal for his family has raised almost £30,000.
