Richmond and Northallerton MP Rishi Sunak joined residents at the Farmers Arms in Scorton to support a community-led Darts for Dementia fundraiser in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
The day-long challenge, organised by landlords Bryan and Natalie Mackinnon, invited villagers to help bring a darts score of 50,001 down to zero through thousands of throws.
Families, regulars and first-time visitors took part throughout the afternoon, with the target finally reached at 6.30pm.
Alongside the main challenge, the event also featured a raffle, an auction of promises and an evening knockout darts competition.
Mr Sunak joined in the throwing and spoke with residents about the impact of dementia locally and the support the Alzheimer’s Society provides.
He said: “Bryan and Natalie have shown remarkable commitment to their community. Today’s fundraiser captured the very best of local spirit — people coming together to support one another and raise awareness of an issue that touches so many families.
“The total raised is a testament to their hard work and the generosity of everyone who took part or donated prizes.”
The Farmers Arms, which regularly hosts charity events, confirmed that more than £2,500 has already been raised for the Alzheimer’s Society, with further donations still expected.
Bryan and Natalie said the cause is particularly close to their hearts.
“We like to support our community where we can and regularly hold fundraisers for various events and charities.
“The Alzheimer’s Society is something very close to our hearts, as some of our family members, regulars and the families of close friends have been affected by this terrible disease.
“This fundraiser is our way of showing support, raising awareness, and helping contribute to the vital work the charity does for those living with dementia and the people who care for them,” they said.
“Thank you to Rishi Sunak for helping us stand with a cause that means so much to so many.”
The pub has a long track record of fundraising, including more than £1,000 donated to Pancreatic Cancer UK last month through its annual quiz.
