Trail runners and walkers descended on Constable Burton Hall for the opening event of DalesRunner’s 2026 Stately Trails Series.

A total of 145 competitors completed either a 5km or 10km route through the estate on Thursday, May 14, taking in woodland paths, open fields and stream crossings.

The event marked the first race in this year’s series, organised by DalesRunner, with prizes supplied by Let’s Run.

Runners were also treated to hotdogs included in the entry fee, featuring locally sourced Red Tractor-assured pork sausages and artisan toppings prepared by the hospitality team at Constable Burton.

Special medals for the event were created by local business Don’t Sell The Farm, while prize-winning competitors also received cookies made by Edwina’s Cakes.

Jess Young said the event had once again attracted competitors from both the local area and further afield.

She said: “It has been wonderful to hold another successful event at Constable Burton Hall.

“The amazing hospitality and welcome we receive here makes for such a fun event.

“We have seen many returning competitors from the local area and further afield this year, enjoying this fantastic parkland.”

Wet weather added to the challenge for runners, with muddy conditions and water crossings becoming part of the experience.

John Holliday said: “The Dales Runner Stately Trails run at Constable Burton was made even more fun this year after plenty of rain through the day.

“The atmosphere as we navigated the mud and mini water crossings was electric with club and social runners all excellently supported by the organisers and an army of marshals.

“The only thing better than the muddy climbs and stunning scenery was the amazing hotdog at the end.

“Can’t wait for the next episode at Forcett Park.”

Competitors travelled from across the region to take part, with organisers encouraging car sharing through a prize draw initiative.

The next event in the Stately Trails Series will take place at Forcett Park near Eppleby on Thursday, June 18.
