The mystery surrounding a rescue call involving 10 walkers reportedly trapped in a shooting hut on Preston Moor has now been resolved.

Police had originally requested assistance after the group was believed to be unable to leave the hut in Wensleydale. With limited information available, Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team members were dispatched to investigate.

On arrival, rescuers discovered the doors to the hut had been bolted shut from the outside, temporarily preventing the walkers from getting out. The group was soon released and, while relieved, was found to be uninjured.

It has now emerged that the walkers were accidentally locked in by a third party. After seeing the rescue team’s social media post about the incident, the individual involved made contact to explain what had happened. They have since spoken directly with the walkers to apologise for the mistake.

The rescue team said the situation was resolved in good spirits, with everyone sharing a laugh about the mix-up, which is now set to become a memorable story to tell over a pint.

Despite being caught out in damp conditions, the walkers were able to continue and complete their hike without further issue.
