Richmond and Lower Swaledale Business Association (RLSBA), which works on behalf of businesses in Richmond and the surrounding area, has elected a new chairman to take over from Melva Steckles.

At the Annual General Meeting, which took place on 8 February, Marcia McLuckie, of Yorkshire Country Holidays, was chosen to take over from Melva, who had been in the position since 2014.

Eileen Halliday, manager at the Station was elected as deputy, with Ian Crisop as treasurer, Gillian Howells, secretary and Dennis Graves in charge of membership.

Marcia and her husband, Dennis, set up Yorkshire Country Holidays in 2007.

She recently retired from her position as the administrator at Kiplin Hall, where she has worked for the last 11 years, allowing much more time to run their holiday cottage business.

Marcia praised the outgoing chairman.

She said: “Melva has done a brilliant job over the last three years, but due to ill-health she has decided to stand down.

“I look forward to taking over her role and working alongside the newly elected committee.

“There was a great deal of enthusiasm for the business association at the last meeting, which I found very encouraging.

“We shall be meeting again on 1 March when new members are welcome to come along and find out what the Association can offer them.”

Anyone who would like to learn more about the Association is invited to email Marcia at, telephone 01748 825525, or attend the next meeting, which takes place Wednesday 1 March at 6.00pm in the Chairman’s Room at Richmond Station.
